The Privacy-First Compressor

Browser-Based Security

Your files never leave your device. All compression happens locally using WebAssembly. No servers, no leaks.

Intelligent Algorithms

Whether it's shrinking a podcast MP3, a 4K gaming clip, or a scanned PDF, we optimize bitrates to maintain maximum quality.

Audio & Video Ready

New support for MP3 and WAV compression. Reduce podcast sizes, voice notes, or music stems instantly without losing clarity.

FAQ

How local compression works.

Is my data truly private?
Absolutely. Smaller.cc utilizes WebAssembly technology to process files entirely within your browser. Unlike traditional converters, your files are never sent to a remote server. You can even turn off your internet connection after the page loads and the tool will still work.
How does the Audio & Video compression work?
We use FFmpeg.wasm, a port of the industry-standard FFmpeg tool. For video, we calculate the optimal bitrate to fit your target file size (e.g., 8MB). For audio, we re-encode tracks to efficient MP3 formats at lower bitrates, drastically reducing size while maintaining listenable quality.
Why use the 8MB option for Discord?
While Discord has increased upload limits for some users, the 8MB limit remains the standard for free accounts and is the most mobile-data friendly size. It guarantees your content can be viewed by anyone, anywhere, without Nitro.
What file formats are supported?
Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM. Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, AAC. Image: PNG, JPG, WebP. Document: PDF.
Why did my PDF text become an image?
To achieve maximum compression on large scanned documents or heavy reports, we rasterize pages into optimized images. This removes invisible metadata and complex vector layers, often reducing file size by 90%+, though text selection is disabled.
